You Can Be Better

We offer a unique program that combines modern western medicine with traditional eastern exercise methods to provide people with chronic pain physical and psychological treatment. Our group sessions are led by a licensed medical specialist who is also a martial arts instructor, and consist of pain education, meditation/relaxation, cognitive-behavioral techniques, and gentle exercise for strength, endurance, and flexibility. Participants can attend in person or online at their convenience.

No medical referral is required and there is no waiting list.

Programs that emphasize non-pharmacological therapies for chronic pain have proven themselves valuable enough that increasing numbers of hospitals and clinics have started them. However, most are time-limited, often running for about 8-12 weeks while chronic pain is – well – chronic and doesn’t stop when the program does. That’s why we offer sessions three times a week and keep them open for people to start and stop as they please to use what they find valuable to them.
It is not about simply learning to live with pain. It’s about learning to live better.”

This program is open only to Ontario residents with a valid OHIP card.

Who We Are

Prior to earning his medical degree, Jan Carstoniu had been a licensed psychologist in the province of Québec. This earlier training combined with his medical specialty in anesthesiology led to the opening of a practice in the management of chronic pain in 1993.
